Default Storm!

Guys right now I'm in the middle of one of the most amazing electrical storms i've ever seen! Anyone else live out near Port Wakefield??? This is incredible!! There's like huge bolts of lightning ripping across the sky. Just waiting for the power to go out now.

Lightning and rain just started here near Glenelg. I'm grabbing a coffee and going out for a look. The winds starting to pick up as well, could be fun night.

Yeah, the wind just stopped all together just then... Dead quiet except for the occasional explosion as lightning strikes.

Yeah the storms last night were amazing. Started in my area (east of city) at about midnight. Grabbed a beer and sat outside for about 30 minutes and saw no less than 100 strikes. Ambient temp was about 25 degrees. It really was something else, dont often get storms like that doen here.

And while on THIS subject... What if your power & phone lines are underground?.. Should you still turn off puters & not use the phone as recommended?

That was a pretty violet storm!

I stood outside for about 30mins just watching lighthing going nuts. There were literally about 3 flashes every 5 seconds.

Bloody incredible. And it was warm aswell. Reminded me of the darwin tropical storms.

Well last night in Melbourne there was a massive electrical storm.

It was fantastic to watch, when its dark with no lights on, it lights up the whole house. And the rain was like monsoon rain, it just suddenly started raining.

I didn't think of taking photos. Besides, my camera is slow.

Powershot my ****!

One time in a storm I was able to set my (digital) camera on the window sill and set it to continuous shot mode. Eventually a few of them coincided with the lightning strikes - a nice effect apart from the power lines.

Since discovering the weather bureau radar site I've gained a new appreciation for how difficult it is to predict the weather.

So the predicted storm did not hit Melbourne? Check the radar and see how much rain passed by just on the outskirts of the city.

Different temperature to the prediction? See how the north side of Melbourne got something completely different to the south.

ABC 774 in Melbourne also get the 'horses mouth' weather report, talking directly to the forecaster, a few times throughout the day (eg: before the 7:00 AM news), which is often a lot more informative. For example 'hot with a late change' becomes 'we expect the change to reach Melbourne between 8:30 and 9:00 PM', and sure enough, you go down to the beach after work on the strength of that and the change does indeed come through at that time. If they say the change will hit around 6:00 PM then you know there's no point going down for a dip after work.

Yeah I was watching out thru the window at Pancake Parlour last night, it looked great. Didn't seem to last all that long but still great to watch.

It's a 4-burner hooked up to gas, but i've built in into a bluestone surround with huge blocks from a 150yr old house in tarneit. The things that solid that if a nuke hits, you're invited to gather underneath...lol
