Looks like the best of the bunch for a Fiesta, but unfortunately, illegal in NSW, but not that it matters since it's in WA...

I've been recently browsing Fiesta Faction and what they seem to be doin is to cut 2 2" holes into the side of the lower factory airbox, and that seems to improve low rev throttle response.
So that got me thinking. What if we drilled a 4" hole into the side of the airbox, just under where the panel filter sits, fitted a sillicon tube of similar inner diameter (painted black of course for tha OEM look) to that hole and fitted the other end at the bottom of the shark's mouth air intake grille near the passenger side foglight mount, whilst not touching the factory snorkel. That should be as good as any CAI no?

I reckon you wouldn't need bigger than 3". Though I'd be reluctant to drill the factory airbox in case I wanted to return it to stock.

I suppose we could always order a new airbox from Ford, though I wonder how much it'll cost...

Ring up a parts division. I got a price on a replacement intake pipe on the Focus before I chopped up the existing one.

Incidentally, I did the sums, and a three inch circular hole does have roughly the same area as 2x two inch holes.

Put the Pipercross into my Fez and am quite happy with it although some of the bolts were missing in the box easily found at the hardware store.

Much more of a sound is produced and it seems to flow much better than the stock one, I'm guessing because of the size difference in tubes. I would recommend it.

Sounds good. I just had a look under the bonnet of the Mrs' WT Fiesta, and I'm impressed that you can make any changes in there, it's that tight.

Incidentally, I noticed there was no engine cover in there a-la the one in the Focus. Am I imagining that there should be one in there? The car had its 3000km "service" a few months back, and I'm wondering whether the cover was left off then. That's if there was ever one there.

Wasn't one on the WS either. You can get them here if you really want to pay the price.

To do the induction you just pull out the stock airbox (as you know), the Pipercross chamber is actually smaller than the stock one so it still fits. then the pipe just runs out from the bottom If you did a Cone filter setup there would be even more room.

For those if us with the diesel variety, is there any point doing mods such as this, does more or colder air help a diesel in any way?

Cold air helps every type of induction. Diesel cars are known for the tuning properties. in theory you can tune a diesel car more than a petrol car. Maybee not for more power but more effeciency.
