JC I have never seen moto riders on the phone, texting, doing facials while trying to move through traffic. However I have seen plenty of motorists do such things.

I was going to elaborate a little more, but i dont think its worth it.
bike skill sets CAN more you more aware in a car, but its not a given, or to say their better than the next car only driver. Last thing i will say is go ride one and see for yourself whether or not it makes your more alert/aware. |

Yes we do become aware of our own vulnerability but we also do learn to be more aware of other road users when we are in a car or like myself when behind the wheel of a truck. You need to ride a bike to realise what it takes to stay on two wheels & most bike riders if they have any brains use the same skills when behind the wheel of a car. Not saying better car driving skills but perhaps better at knowing what to look for than a lot of cage drivers. & I'm not talking about the weekend warriors riding in singlets & shorts trying to look cool.

I dont sprout myself to be the best rider or driver in the world, but ive always said that all drivers should be taught how to ride, just to give them a idea of what its like for us on 2 wheels, they will see the road in a whole new light.

i think some motorcyclists take crazy risks as do car drivers. i'd say the ratio is about the same.

yeah i totally get that, i think some poeple are startled that a bike is suddenly next/behind them . but try and remember that a rider is 100% focused on the traffic and his/her riding. he's not changing cd's, talking on the phone or picking his nose, etc. sometimes its so easy for a bike to flow thorugh traffic. but that doesn,t mean it right too cause problems. |

Forty years ago when I learnt to ride a Motor Cycle a friend told me to ride as if you are invisible, don't trust anybody. If you apply that advice when you are driving a car it must make you a safer driver as well.
Remember there are old motorcyclists and there are stupid motorcyclists, but there are no stupid old motorcyclists. |

Wouldn't it be the case, that a person who has ridden a motorcycle, bus, tractor, B-double, would appreciate the extra hazards that need to be looked out for?
If a driver has experience in motorcycle riding, driving taxi's, buses, semi's, tanks - that all gives experience to that driver in different situations. Of course that will make them a better driver, because they have more experience to draw from. If they don't draw from their experience, then they are just plain stupid.
