You don"t have yearly rego checks so there are these inspectors that can pull u over and check your car for roadworthy.

It's the same in Victoria with Vicroads; cars have purple lights, and have just as much power as the police when it comes to handing out fines, for unreg, unlicensed, unroadworth and even speeding vehilces.
I have heard, in Vic atleast they are ruthless, once pulled over you might as well get the lube out. DOT (QLD), and Vicroads patrols duties are generally reserved for transport inspections and policing (i.e. trucks), but get used when there is a blitz. |

Don't have a problem if our (NSW) inspectors do the occasional blitz WITH NSW HWP.
But, authority of the state or not, *only* NSW POL should have that power. Once upon a time when AUS/NSW was 'free', POL could only stop you when you were going about your business IF you bought yourself under notice somehow. When the 'random' bit came in circa 84' (Thanks a lot GP of LAB) . .... mmm.... Slowly, year by year, bit by bit - things turn out of kilter - the promotion of mediocrity over the peoples/sheeples. Damn, the older I get the more Libertarian I seem:-)

Vicroads can enforce the Road Safety Act as well as a other Acts in Victoria, I am assuming it is the same in other States.
From the Victorian Road Rules (in the Dictionary section) enforcement vehicle means a vehicle being used to convey an officer of the Corporation (read Vicroads) or of the Department of Transport engaged in connection with the enforcement of the— (a) Accident Towing Services Act 2007; or (b) Bus Safety Act 2009; or (c) Rail Safety Act 2006; or (d) Road Management Act 2004; or (e) Road Safety Act 1986; or (f) Transport (Compliance and Miscellaneous) Act 1983;

Its been a common occourance here since the early 90s.... I can remember as far back remember when they had VK/VL commodores and would be pulling over mostly hotted up cars.
They would also attend a lot of car shows with their display and do roadworthy checks on modified cars at the car show... (most of the time they would actually just tell you your car needs this this and this done... now go home and fix it and no fines were given out) edit: Late 90s mind you.. but i havent seen them attend a local event in over 10yrs or even do a blitz near a local car show in that time

A few years back, it was pretty much standard fair for Qld Transport and the Police to throw a net
over people attending modified car shows and people driving out to the drags at Willowbank. |

The Taxi industry loves them..
They do random blitzs occasionally in the city on all Taxi's... They need to do it more often, some of the Taxi's I get in are far from roadworthy, or clean for that matter.

I know Transport Safety as they're called here in SA use purple lights.
However, nowhere in ANY driver training to get L's or P's EVER mentioned pulling over for purple lights if they came up behind you. Besides, they normally concentrate on Taxis here. I saw the Vic unit in full swing outside my hotel in Southbank last month - 2 days in a row of Taxi Defect Station - was great free entertainment!

As has been said... ignorance isnt an excuse. You will cop a fine for failing to stop for an authorised officer... same fine for failing to stop for police. Quote:
