Default What a gallah

Thought I'd share this.

Driving to the train station this morning, I have to endure the never ending road works crawling along at 40 - 50 kph. These road works consist of two lanes with the red bollards set up in between. Trucks, heavy vehicles etc all tend to bank up both ways for the three k trip through these road works.

The dumbest thing I have seen for a long time, in the opposit second lane a car had pulled up over the bank and a middle aged female was on the road trying to throw a blanket over a pink & grey gallah (cockie) that had obviously been hit by her car and was franticly in the act of trying to rescue.

Trucks, cars etc were still travelling past this women, who had put herself in an extremely dangerous position trying to pin down the bird.

Meanwhile, I am travelling towards the woman in the opposite lane seeing all this commotion, I counted four attempts by the lady throwing the blanket over the bird, each time the bird had escaped, the last throw trapped the bird, the lady picked the blanket up, the bird wriggled out then flew straight across into my lane where unfortunately, all this effort had come to a complete waste of time as I ran the bloody thing over.

Now comes the second part, as All Ford day is approaching I just had all the stone chips repainted on the front bar - now I have cockie chips to contend with - jeez, gotta love suicidal gallahs :

Moronic woman. While the loss of life of a bird is by no means a good thing-get over it and keep driving. It's not worth risking your life over.

Yeah, I'm not sure, don't like seeing things killed, but you have to consider situations people put themselves in.

After the event, I thought it was a scene from a classic fawlty Towers episode.

Road kill can't be helped sometimes. I nearly smashed a pink and grey gallah once. Flew out of the bushes very suddenly. Luckily I was able to slow the car down from 90km/h just enough to let it fly by. I've seen a few of these birds squished on roads lately.

Sad in a way. She may live on her own and this may have been her only family (we never know what situation people may be in). Some people will do anything for their pets.

Classic! haha. When i was driving past the zoo in adelaide the car in front of me stopped for no reason(as i thought) next thing i can see ducks walking cross the road. if it weren't for the car in front i prolly would have kept driving(being fresh from the country)
