Default 13 second pass.....finally :)

Tonight I finally ran a 13 second pass in my ute.

My best run was a 13.901 @ 100.47mph with a 2.133 60'. Only had three runs all up, first run I went gentle and ran a 14.0 @ 100.4x with a 2.19x 60'. Last run was a wheel-spinning basket case :P

I was shifting really early, about 5600rpm, so there should be more in it as it is.

Ran it in exactly the same "trim" as my previous PB (14.153 @ 99), but with the GT40X heads and some mild fuel and spark tuning.

This is still with the original unported Explorer lower intake, probably flowing 20-30cfm less than the intake port in the heads. Cant wait to see how it runs with a decent intake

Great work....change at six grand and you will get some 13.7 time slips @ 101mph.

Cheers, Craig.

Thanks guys. Would be interesting to see just what happens to mph with shifts at 6000rpm. I am curious to see just how much the std explorer intake is holding the combo back.

Yousef, it must have been 18mths ago when I said i'd have the ute back on the road in a few months. It took a bit longer than that, but its done now and it works good

Maybe we should celebrate with a kart session somewhere

Absolutely. If you're still working in the Metro we'll organise something for the Indykarts at Revesby for a weeknight? Either way I'm not fussed.

I would love to catch up for old times sake, and to see this V8 ute...

Nice work mate, great to see.
I doubt shifting at 6000rpm would help as power would be rolling over by then.

Just something to try, My car makes max power @ 5600rpm so for me i get best results changing at six grand and on the odd cold, crisp nights just before 6200rpm.

Thats my gut feel as well (mostly because of the std lower intake), but I am a little dissapointed I didnt get the opportunity to find out.

Runner length and port flow aside, the minimum port cross-section of the explorer lower is crazy small. I haven't done the math, but I wouldn't be suprised if it is choking the 5L by 5500rpm. Must do that before I begin porting.

If I can sort my wideband, then i'll get out there in the next couple of weeks, otherwise I might wait until ive ported and swapped out the lower intake (probably a couple of months).
