Default The BMW E60 5 Series

I was wondering whether people like the design of this car or not in non M5 guise?

It's such an interesting design that I think people either love it or hate it.

Cheers.

I love the look of all the new 5 series. Took a bit of getting used to, particularly the rear/tailights.

Full page pic of the 7 series in the latest Aust financial review magazine - looks horn as well.

I like the design direction as it is fresh. However it could of been made a lot better looking by making some of the design elements more cohesive.

The shut-lines and surface language around the tail lights and boot could be a lot better, while the roof line could be massaged upwards of around 20mm at the top of the B-pillar to give it more of a coupe look without sacrificing rear head room.

Not so mad on the rear trunk lip but the rest of hte car grows on you. My initial impression was "oh no! not again!", but its really grown and looks very modern.

I don't hate it, but I'm not a fan either. Unfortunately, Mercedes are going the fugly route with their next gen E-Class (and all their other next-gen cars), so I guess in the future, it'll be the Audi A6 that's my pick of the German luxo trio. The only one that's not adopting horrible design (even though their new front grille isn't entirely desireable).

Thanks for the replies everyone.

Me personally, I have loved it since day one. The best parts of the car for me are the lights, entire front end and the back of it. I am a bit iffy on the side on profile, but when you see these cars on the road they look awesome.

And don't even start me on the M5... ohhhhh yeah

Not a fan of it, the Z4 is also ugly and the 6 series could have look so much better if it werent for the silly boot lid but the 7 series has grown on me! still think the old 7 looks better. On a nice set of deep dish rims they look ace! same goes for the old 5 series

Default Chris Bangle wanted for crimes against humanity

I never used the words 'BMW' and 'ugly' in the same sentence prior to Chris Bangle's arrival at BMW.

I acknowledge that the new BMWs are great cars. But they look crap. I am starting to lean to the Audi brand because they look better than the current BMWs.

I think ANYONE in a 7 series, honestly, in the true sense of the word does not give a about what anyone thinks about it. 7 Series are pure sex, and class.

I love it, looks bloody good. Loved it since day one. Why are people saying they hate this but like the new Audi? The grille looks bloody ridiculous!

And why on earth would you want to make a 5 series look like a coupe?

I like it - the "flame" lights give it an agressive look - they also sort of make it look like its in motion when it standing still.

Agreed.

Mechanically designed is excellent as ever.
Cosmetically ... well ... it looks like it has been hit with the ugly stick IMHO.

The previous model though was sex on wheels ... f*^king nice.

The only issue I have with the previous 5 Series is the front lights.

They seem a little plain looking compared to the 3 series and other BMWs of that same time. The new 5 Series front lights are awesome and unique and blend in nicely with the rest of the car.
