Default TDCi tuning chip port

Just wondering if anyone has been able to find where the diesel tuning box chips go in the engine bay of the TDCi?

I cant find the port(s) it connects too.. hoping someone knows

Whilst I have not fitted one I understand they go into the connector in the fuel common rail used to feed the injectors. The TDCI it has an electrical connection in the middle of the common rail and facing down to the road ( about dead centre of the front of the engine and to the right of the oil filler as you face the car. Hope this is the correct one )> Good luck

So your saying it doesnt go into a vacant port? It needs to be placed in between the electrical connector and the port ?

Thats what I understand to be the case. (PS its to the left of the oil filler on the TDCI)
Other units have two connectors so assume they are effectively spliced into the wiring .

I take it you have the unit? Let us know how you go as it seems like good value. Interested in performance and milage. How are you finding your TDCI? Had it long and done many Km's?

its under the plastic air tube just about where the clamp is on the air intake in the centre of the picture. Look for a metal tube ( common rail fuel) running across the front of the engine block which has the four diesel fuel tubes going to the injectors on top of the motor. the connection is in the middle of the fuel common rail pointing to the road

I dont have the unit yet, been doing research for a while now.. bit worried that i buy the unit and it doesnt fit or something.. so just trying to get as much info as to where it goes and what options i have etc first.

TDCi is great on fuel i do about 40kms a day on average including weekends i fill up every 3weeks costs about $55. I work in the city so i average about 7.3l per 100km

I've had it about 6months now done nearly 6000km so 1000k a month.

I think I need to clean the engine bay :( there are still spillages from the incompetent bayford service dept from when i brought it in for the 3000km service.. they did a top up and managed to spill oil on the engine cover, they didnt even bother to clean it.. i think ill go to ultra tune for a 10000km service.

7.3 doesnt sound that good when i average 8.0-8.2 in a manual petrol considering the price difference. And that is with some excited driving.50/50 city, open road tho.

i dont really do any normal driving its 90% city peak hour i would say.. wish i had an auto some days :P

diesel is actually cheaper where i am.. 117 diesel and petrol is at 125 except on tightarse tuesday where its pretty much even, so diesel is still cheaper to run

I have had diesels in europe before and yes if you drive a petrol pretty sedate there isn't a lot of difference, but you can hammer a diesel all day for 300,000+km's and it will always give good economy and love it. Do that in a small petrol it will drink like a sailor and you'll kill it no time.

I believe the chip connect to the fuel rail sensor which is on the underside of the fuel rail ( see arrow) It has more connectors than the one you have highlighted. It is atatched to the bottom of the bright sensor unit you casn see closer to the engine block behind the connector you identified

I'm very interested to see the results if you go ahead with the chip, are you looking at that one in particular? It looks like there is quite a bit of performance to be gained from the engine.

Filled up today, diesel was cheaper than petrol for once! $56 for 900km

yep im going to unplug it and take a pic of the connection and then shoot it off to tdi-tuning and see what they say\suggest.

will let you know how it goes.. will probably buy the one from ebay as its over half the price then what they have on their website..

yer its bloody cheap at the moment, i also love how i dont have to wait till tuesday or wednesday to fill up to get the cheapest price.. diesel doesnt go up and down like petrol which is great
