Has anyone played with these cheap HID kits that are kicking around? Experiences, reliability, fitment...any thing?

With a reflector type headlight I'd imagine it would be very glarey. If someone was to retrofit it, I'd say stick with installing it into projector headlights.
The European-parts angel eye headlights have a projector low beam it looks like.

Im pretty sure that is the case. Few folks up north are always worried about D.O.T or the Polcie defecting them for having H.I.D's on their cars. Personally if you want that crisp bright light then get something like Blue Vision of Diamond Vision Halogen globes, cost way less and won't get you into the pooper with the law nowhere near as much as throwing a H.I.D conversion kit into your car.

Can't remember which member it was on here they had a brother or brother in law who was a cop.
He said that the cops in his area had a list of cars that came out with factory HID and your car was not on that list then big oops and get em off. |

As far as I understand (and this may be for WA only) HID kits are legal, as long as they come under a certain light output. After all, it's only a different way of generating light at the end of the day. That said, there's an electrical standard for australia that it would have to meet, and possibly an Australian Standard which should be stamped on the components.
*note... I wasn't game to put one of these in my car, I wanted to make a big-*** 12v floodlight which didn't eat power* -RM.
