Default Getting rid of a non rolling car shell.

Hey guys.

The ED XR6 is stripped and I need to get rid of the shell.

It's missing the diff/axle of course and am unsure how the wreckers/scrapyard will get it on their tow truck.

What generally happens in these situations?

Cheers.

Had this done before, they just drag it onto the tow truck, they know what they're doing.

Once I used some jack stands to support the rear of a car with no drivetrain or wheels etc etc. Any way got a car trailer with a winch, slid as much of the trailer as I could of under the rear of the car (got to around the rear door where the jack stands were holding the thing up). Next got my engine craine and hooked it to the K frame, lifted the front up so it was just above being level. got someone strong to pull the car in with the winch while I was giuding the front. Can't say it was the safest thing or If I would do it again but it done the job well and I ended up getting decent cash for the shell (mate works at the scrap yard)

Excellent seems a lot simpler than I was hoping.

Haha EA90gl I was actually looking at possibilities today with the crane, hopefully there's no need.
Guess all I need to do now is find a place open around Christmas.

Oh and Ford EB 4.0: Those guys wouldn't happen to be in S/E Melbourne by any chance? Most people around here charge a couple of hundred even for complete cars!

I’ve heard that the cost of shells used for recycling has gone down recently. That eats in to the towies profit margins. I don’t think they would be paying anyone to take a car away now.

I give mine to the fire and rescue guys. They come and pick them up, take them to a paddock, put a torch to them and simulate a burning car rescue for training purposes. If it saves a life and all that.

I called heaps of scrap yards over here (WA) but most weren't interested in my BA as it only had the rear quarter panels left and a bonnet, a couple fo scrap guys pulled up out front and bailed when they saw how much was left.

I called my grandad, I went and picked up the A frames from his place, we hoisted the car up, drove the car trailer under the shell, and drove it to the wreckers. I got $36.50 for it. hahaha

Steel prices have gone rock bottom since the Chinese have stopped/slowed down their buying.

We got $120 a ton about 6 weeks ago, and got $20 a ton on Monday.

the front windscreen is cracked.. the rear one was good, but effort versus need versus want..
I did pretty well, got plenty of spares for myself, and plenty of parts to help others out too..

Mate if your in SE Melb try giving Moons towing a ring as they have a scrap yard and might even give you some coin for the shell. Pretty sure you wont be paying anything for them to remove it.

Due to falling prices here they will take them for free but wont pick them up anymore.

What I do is tip them upside down on the roof (gotta be gutted obviously) and winch it onto a car trailer which has ramps and a winch. They slide on and off much easier upside down, nothing to snag that way.

When you get to the dump, tie the shell to another wreck and drive away.

Cut an escort sedan into pieces with a 9" grinder, small enough to fit into a rx7.
Dumped a little at a time into a dump master at work.

Geez. Guess I was lucky then. I wrecked 2 BAs early in the year and got $300 for each bare shell. The people who bought them needed a front and rear end respectively. They arranged a tow truck and trailer themselves too and picked it up from my driveway.

hey bob, you got a bargain!
If i'd been smart i would have cut the rear quarters off, but i figured noone would want them..
I had the shell sitting out the front for weeks, then days after i dropped the shell off at the scrap yard, xt3valve told me he wanted the rear qaurters.. ahaha
