Just wondering what a WQ LX 5 speed manual revs at 100km/h

I think it's about 2900rpm

The Zetec and XR4 are slightly more at about 3000rpm

My WP Zetec is 3000RPM @ 100kph and the WQ LZ has the same gear ratios, etc...

I'm sure there's another thread on this here somewere(anyone?)... but its something like
LX: 3000RPM
Zetec: 3405RPM
XR4: Cant remeber, but somewere between the two

The site obviously uses MPH and Inches but you can convert them of course.

The LX Fiesta has 15" steel wheels with 195/50 R15 tyres which is an overall diameter of 22.7", fifth gear ratio is 0.76:1, final drive is 4.25:1 which equals exactly 2868.58 rpm/60mph (100km/h)

The Zetec has 16" alloy wheels with 195/45 R16 tyres which is an overall diameter of 22.9", fifth gear ratio is 0.88:1, final drive is 4.06:1 which equals exactly 3145.31 rpm/60mph (100km/h)

The XR4 has 17" alloy wheels with 205/40 R17 tyres which is an overall diameter of 23.5", fifth gear ratio is 0.88:1, final drive is 3.82:1 which equals exactly 2883.82 rpm/60mph (100km/h)

As you can see the LX definately revs lower than the Zetec at 100km/h.

Ford put different ratios in the Zetec gearbox to make it a bit more "sprightly" or "responsive" than the LX models, (ie: it revs harder all the time and is hence closer to the maximum power output of 74kw that the engine produces at 6000rpm), of course both models share exactly the same engine.

It's Ford lame way of giving the Zetec a "perceived impression" of more power whilst "hinting" at some sort of sporting potential, pretty much marketing "mumbo jumbo".

Remember the Zetec had to fill the "sporting Fiesta" gap for quite some time before the "eventual arrival" of the XR4 model last year.

In reality the driving experience between the LX and Zetec models is of little to no difference, the Zetec "feels" a bit more taught and composed on the road due to the stiffer spring setup and lower profile tyres but at a $2500 premium one would expect "something".

Personally I would take an LX over the Zetec anyday and spend the $2500 saving on some modifications of my choice, perhaps some nice 17" alloys and King Springs, throw in the Driving Lights if you have any spare change (the wiring is already there in the LX to accomodate these lights).

This is also a very worthwhile and interesting site to gauge the difference between changing to over or undersized wheels/tyres and what effect that has on the cars actual speedometer readings.

Was 2 inches over the largest rim available in the range, but I think in most states that has been dropped.
That is how you are seeing 22s on Territorys.
