I think it was the 1986 Summernats, a group of blokes hired a then brand new VL Commodore, took the springs out, plastered it with stickers and a set of moon caps, and went to the Nats for a great weekend!

Ed ;)

lol when we get cars like that we hire people to clean it and charge the customer for the cleaning.

hey ...you beat me too it.
i was just thinking about those guys as i read these post. i think it was the same year as robby beachem (sorry, i know i have spelt his name wrong) turned up with his VL calais race car.
i dont think that the budget rent-a-cruiser stopped all weekend. i can still remember it cruising up and down northbourn ave in canberra with showers of sparks flying from under it, apparently they pulled the floor drain plugs out and the guys in the back seat would drag steel pipes on the road to make the sparks.

unfortunately this update is a sad one, not only for the cars but the people involved.

the first is a BF Fairmont Ghia, not sure exactly what happened but there is a numberplate imprint on the bonnet, looks like the ghia was on the wrong side of the road. male driver died (RIP) and and female passenger is in critical condition in hospital.

the second one not as sad but still upsetting, the female driver was driving past a truck going in the opposite direction when the tyre came loose from the truck sending the 2 hundred odd kilo rim and tyre into the BF XR6, the driver is in critical condition in hospital and has lost one eye.

please people be careful on the roads.
