Default Looking at an ef tomorrow (new here) - HELP

Hi all.

Looking to join your ranks. I am looking at an ef wagon tomorrow.

The person selling it said it has a small leak from the sump (50c peice of oil) is this common or what?

They said the car squeaks over bumps sometimes from the front. I see this is pretty common. Is this a big issue?

Is there any way to tell how many Km the car has done when the dash has been changed?

Thanks.

EDIT: if someone can help tonight that would be great. looking at it tomorrow.

Small leak from the sump - Sounds like it just needs a new sump plug and washer kit.

Squeking is pretty normal, usually put that down to worn bushes/shocks, nothing major.

I don't think there is any real way of telling the K's if the dash cluster has been changed. Another piece of advice would be to check the cooling sytem, make sure the radiater isn't leaking and that it has some coolant in the overflow tank. Good luck with it. Generally if the car looks in good nick like it's been loked after then it probably has. Ask for service history, find out what's been replaced recently etc. Good luck with it.

well mine leaks aswell(ED wagon) about the same here and there, mine does about 1-2 drops a night though

with the squeaks i have some from the rear at low speed of road, bumpy driving i think all it needs is a bit of oil or something

about km's done i dont think theres an accurate way of finding out, but doesnt the computer keep it in record? and once a dash is changed it keeps the same odo reading? they are digital ones...

Overall sounds good, just check the engine for any possible coolant leaks. Check the service history and with that oil leak, check that its in a location which will not cause you grief in the near future. The front squeak will most likely be shocks and/or bushes (nothing major).

With the K's, just check that the K's match its condition or wear and tear.

Good to see another potential wagon owner.

front squeeks are often dry shock mounts or upper control arm bushes.

there is an EPROM ship in the cluster which retains the km reading - so change the cluster, you change the km's! only way to keep the correct km's is to swap the EPROM chip from cluster to cluster ;)
