Default Gearbox oil replacement on Zetec manual

Hey everyone

to the mechanics and mechanically minded out there... I've read all over the place that it's a good idea to replace he gearbox oil every 100K km regardless of make / model. This is not something that I have found manufacturers to ever recommend, which to me does not make sense - it's oil, it has a life span, it will undoubtedly contain debris as you will undoubtedly crunch a gear or two (and not admit to it in public of course!).

Thoughts on this? If it is a good idea and / or recommended I was thinking of do it at the same time as by brakes over the Xmas days off. I'll be doing it with a couple of friends, and may even get to use someone's workshop (power tools!! ).

Cheerio

Ali.

100,000km ?

Imo if you're a car enthusiast, you'd change the transmission oil much more often than once every 100,000km.
I plan to change mine on the 45,000km service.

Well you will find it quite hard to change the oil, as no drain plug is provided. The Manual transmission is sealed for life. Ford put a synthetic gear oil in and it shouldn't ever need changing. It only needs the oil level checked every 3 years.

Well, there we go - thanks Imolator for the answer.

Like Ives, I'd like to change it, but if it's sealed, it's sealed!
