Unwanted cars picked up free (Ads in paper)

You know the ads in the paper that say they will pick up your unwanted cars?
Has anyone here ever done it for a car they have stripped?
I am in the process of wreaking me old EB and by the time I am finished it won’t look like much of a car any more will they still take it away?

These guys are commonly known as scrapies out here. We have just had 5 old car bodies & literally a truck load of scrap metal taken away. (Living on a farm this stuff seems to accumulate).

They take it away for free as they get $$$$ for the scrap metal so it doesnt matter if it doesnt resemble a car anymore. I know a couple of the ones taken from here didnt.

Local bloke here took a VR commo off our hands that had been cut into about 6 pieces. All fit in the back of his ute.
As MotherNature said, they sell most for scrap metal so a stripped car is usually easier for them as there's less work in removing plastic, rubber, glass etc etc.

I thought as much, someone at work told me that they only take whole cars I guess if it was a wrecker picking it up that might be the case.

i stripped my car down to front wheels only (rear carried by a engine crane)
and all they did is wack it on a flat bed truck and bobs your uncle. it was out of my sight with no charge

done it loads of times.
I've got a car sitting out the front at the moment awaiting pick up.
its a bareshell with no wheels
they'll have to drag it onto the tray truck but generally its still free.

I live on property and over the years we have used those guys to get rid of lots of things.
They dont just take whole cars, we gave them bare rusty shells cut in half even.
Not a problem as they just sell whats left as scrap metal.

sweet we have a axe attacked car we gotta get rid of might aswell rip everything we want off it and get them to tow her away

Cool, I was going to leave a set of turbo blades on so they could get it on the truck looks like they will be coming off.
Now I just got to get out there and strip the rest of it.

I have always been paid for my destroyed veichles to be picked up. Usually get $50 for a somewhat complete car or $20 for one that is only good for scrap.

I was actually just about to ask how this works, want to get the wagon taken away on the weekend, its pretty stripped out and i want to get the wheels off it

Does it usually cause alot of damage to grass. dirt etc when they drag the car up? Where the cars sitting right now we have a sprinkler system going under it.

And also when you pull the wheels off do you just leave it on blocks?
It has good tread on the rims it has and want to keep them.

our wrecker pays $50 for a wreck as i think they get about $150 a tonne from the big scrapyards in melb good money to be made

If you have or can get a trailer, load it up and take the wheels off. Take it to the nearest scrap yard and they will take it off and give you dollars/kg for it. Last XF I stripped, got about $60 for what was left

Thats what we did, put it on the trailer, pulled the wheels off and they grabbed it with the huge claw thingo, I got $64 for it (i wanted the extra 4 so i could get a beam slab.

A guy I knew a few years back done this part time. He didn't care if the car was only a bare shell as long as it was rolling as he only had a car trailer. He would take the car home, put and axe through the sump then drain the tank. He typically got $150 per car scrap and done 2 or 3 cars a week. Good money seeing as its cash in hand too.

It really depends on the set up of the scrappy you use. The bloke who we use has a huge crane on the back of his truck trailer. Remembering that we are in the bush so this bloke is used to large loads of this stuff.

There was no damage to the ground as the wrecks were lifted straight up. In saying that if the guys you use only have a car trailer or no crane then I would imagine a small amount of grass damage would occur.

I would leave the wheels on until you find out the set up of whomever you get to do this. Then just on blocks is easy as ........ some of our wrecks weren't even on blocks ........

if they can drag it up on their truck they wont care. most of the ppls getting cars like this are just for scrap metal

Can you push it out on the road first? That way its not going to damage any of your property.

yeah im just considering weather its worth keeping the wheels at all now, their just 15" snow flakes, but have brand new tread on them

Might just leave them on there and buy new tyres for my EA

The set up the towie will most probably have would be a tilt tray truck

If you leave the snow flakes on there they will pull them off and get at least 25 a rim for scrap,alloy is worth a lot atm.

Meh, I left them there anyway, it got taken away about 10 mins ago
