if you leave your dash compartment open when you lock the car does it trigger the alarm after a while

yep. Its actually the drain on the battery from the internal lights being on that does it. Same as if you leave the courtesy lights on in the back seat.

That's the way they're supposed to work, but once you add an alarm into the mix, depending on the features of the alarm, a low voltage output from the battery may trigger the alarm.
