Default clutch issue ?

Just lately I've been having troubles with my manual ute. 1st and 2nd gears seem hard to engage quite often now and sometimes when I put it in 1st the stick shudders quite bad. Have also missed quite a few gears in the last few days because they wont engage like normal, isnt affecting 4th or 5th gears tho. Any ideas? Oh and its an aftermarket hd clutch that was put it about 1.5yrs ago

i dont know about the adjustment theory. I adjust mine quite regularly, and ive continually had the clutch shudder problem, the whole time ive owned my car.

sounds like its not quite disengageing, as philstoj says try and adjust it, have heard some reports of flexing cracked firewalls,1`m not sure if this is an au thing or earlier model, if a firewall was gunna give trouble it would be with a hd clutch i reckon,

ok i actually just read that properly, and discovered I sound like a tool!!!
I have a clutch shudder problem sound is fel through the entire car. by the sounds of the problem your having, yes I would say your clutch needs adjusting! My apoligies!

+1 for cable adjustment just pop the bonnet, find where the cable passes through the firewall and tighten it up a couple turns at a time. While your there check for any signs of damage or repair.

just a thought, how long ago was your gearbox oil changed? maybe change it, making sure to drop the old oil into a clean container so you can make sure you dont have any metal filings/chunks in your oil. it is normal to have a small amount, but if there is a lot of it, more then likely the internals are falling apart which will mean a re-build/exchange box. hopefully this wont be the case and its just a clutch adjustment.

Ok I'll give it a bit of a tweak today and see how it goes, might change the oil while im at it. Hopefully thats all it is as Ive just moved out of home for the first time and dont have much money to play with at the moment. I also noticed last night that if I push the clutch in like I normally would it does it but if I give it a bit of a harder push it works like it used to so Im thinking that would mean an adjustment would do the trick ?

Yeah just go and tighten it up.

What happens is it loosens up over time because there's only a single nut holding it in place. If that doesnt do the trick you may need to replace the cable due to it being stretched.

It could be a number of different things but hopefully it's one of these two

Forgot to reply but I tightened the clutch cable a little and it works like a dream again. Might get the gearbox oil changed too if I get a chance.

sometimes i have the same problem with my car, so just to make sure which way do you turn the nut on the cable in the engine bay? i dont have any free play at the pedal as well, so how would i fix this?
