Can anyone advise how to detach the shiny metal "protection " strip from the back ledge of the wagon. It needs to be replaced due to a "mishap". Apart from a wrecker, where is the best source for a new one?

I think it's the rear bumper protector/scuff plate that Mondoman is referring to (indeed part 17K922B in the posted pdf). (Edit: beaten to it)
I believe it's simply affixed with adhesive, so it should just be a matter of wrestling it off. You could try injecting a glue remover/cleaner like Oomph under the plate to help it pry loose. You can get a new one on ebay, both genuine and third-party options should be available. (I've looked before as mine also has a dent in it, but I haven't been game to go through with trying to remove and replace it.) |

That part has a part number of BS71 17C979 AB genuine Ford.
It is not in the Workshop manual I have, just how to remove the whole bar. I have my car booked into my dealer tomorrow, so will see if they have one and check it out for you.. |

Hi Don,
I have seen the part you are talking about but having dramas uploading the photo. To confirm the back of it is like one big piece of double sided tape, so a plastic scraper or trim removed should be used to pry it up from the sides enough to get your fingers under, then slowly peel it off... |

There is a German high quality carbon fibre strip that can be stuck onto the external part of the chrome strip. Seems like a good alternative.
I suspect that the current strip is stuck on with double sided tape. Don |
