I built a huge bluestone barbie before xmas and put some lovely stained wood doors on the front, and sat the 4 burner in. Got plenty of use over xmas, the inlaws were down and for a few days we were cooking brekky, lunch and dinner on there and the 9kg bottle only lasted a week... now i'm thinking I should of ran some copper out and changed the jets to run on house gas before I built the raised patio area....
For the plate I only scrape the leftover bits off after cooking, and next time it gets fired up you heat it up, apply more oil and give it a wipe, nothing sticks You can truly know when your bbq's run in when you fire it up and you can smell the other night's steak as the plate warms up! |

Ahh BBQ's---- we have ours built into an entertainment area and on town gas right next to the "BAR" convieniently placed.
I have only to scrape the plate after cooking(wire brush 4 char grill) close the lid till next one leaving the oil stops rust On fire up of the next BBQ... heat all areas to max...spray water on whole area.....bit of steam and all the nasty's have gone..nothing can live through 120 degree steam bath. Beer Scotch and a feed with some good music ahhhhhh. :

All those using Coke, try using Soda Water. Same effect as Coke but without leaving sticky residue of the sugar.

I only clean before I cook , Salt the plate (drink a beer), heat the plate (drink a beer), scrap the plate (drink a beer), Tip hot water over plate ,(drink a beer), Cook .
BBQ's take time ,no need to rush them or waste beer.. |

The way I see it is that the grease left after use protects it from bugs that may crawl over it and also seasons the plate.... I never scrape it off too much... just enough to direct it down the drain.

Just a quick run over with the barbie brush, and "wallah". Give it a quick spray with olive oil ready for next time.
