Default Ben Brays New Top Doorslammer Monaro

Shamelessly Stolen From another forum.

Two-time champion believes he now has the 'edge' over the competition

Friday, 13 January 2006 - Champion drag racer Ben Bray tonight lifted the veil off the car in which he believes will give him the 'edge' in regaining the coveted ANDRA Australian Top Doorslammer Series title, the Castrol Edge Holden Monaro CV8Z.

The stunning Castrol Edge Monaro is the fruition of 18 months planning by Team Bray Racing and Holden Motorsport.

Its unveiling also heralded an extension to Castrol's long term sponsorship of Australian drag racing icon Victor Bray's Team Bray Racing and the expansion of that agreement to include both Victor and Ben Bray's cars under the Castrol Edge banner.

Built by world renowned race car builder Murray Anderson in his Melbourne workshop, the Monaro features the latest in cutting edge drag racing technology including an enhanced carbon-fibre body, a new and innovative cantilever rear end and dynamic control front suspension.

"Top Doorslammer is the most competitive class in professional Australian drag racing and you are always looking for an advantage over the opposition - I think we've got it with the Castrol Edge Holden Monaro CV8Z," Ben said.

The car's spectacular livery begins with Holden Monaro CV8Z's hero colour Fusion, an orange-based metallic delivering sharp gold highlights through to darker bronzed drop-out, before fading to black through a series of tribal graphic designs with Castrol Edge logos adorning the sides, front and rear.

Andrew Johnson, Castrol Marketing Director for Australasia, said the extension and expansion of the company's long-standing sponsorship agreement could not come at a more appropriate time as with the launch of the Castrol Edge range.

"The Castrol Edge range has the 'edge' over anything we've developed before and it is targeted towards passionate car owners who are unwilling to comprise on quality and performance," Andrew said.

"Victor and Ben Bray are champion racers passionate and unwilling to compromise on performance, while Ben's new Monaro typifies exactly what Castrol Edge is about - running hard, fast, and hot and totally on the 'edge'."

The Castrol Edge Monaro is powered by a 511 cubic inch BAE aluminium engine topped with a PSI screw supercharger and produces approximately 3,000 horsepower.

With a three speed planetary transmission transferring the power to the ground via a custom fabricated racing differential and its massive 34 x 17" rear tyres, the Monaro has been built to cover the standing quarter mile in less than six seconds at speeds approaching 400 km/h.

Team patriarch Victor Bray said the Castrol Edge Monaro was the proud result of strong collaboration between Team Bray Racing, Holden Motorsport and Anderson Race Cars.

"We are extremely proud of this car; this is the fourth Castrol Team Bray Top Doorslammer to emerge from the Anderson Race Cars workshop and each one has been a development on the previous one. Every car that comes out of Murray's shop is his best yet and this one is no different," Victor said.

"When you're racing at such high speeds and in the close, intense competition that we have in Top Doorslammer then the car used needs to be heavily modified on the basis of aerodynamic efficiency and safety issues.

"Ben's Castrol Edge Monaro has been designed and built in such a way that it will be fast and safe while retaining the integrity of the road going Monaro, which was extremely important to Holden."

After graduating from the junior dragster ranks, Ben Bray made his first professional drag racing appearance in the ANDRA Australian Top Doorslammer Series in 2002 as a then 17-year-old, winning on debut. He won the 2003 national title in his first full season, in the process setting a world record as the youngest ever professional drag racing championship winner.

In 2004 Bray finished second in the points chase before beginning a record-setting 24-round win streak that ultimately secured him his second Australian Championship.

The Castrol Edge Monaro will make its competition debut at round four of the 2006 ANDRA Australian Top Doorslammer Championship at the Summernationals on 9-11 February at the Western Sydney International Dragway.

The event will also mark the first competitive appearance of Victor Bray's infamous '57 Chevy doorslammer in its new Castrol Edge livery, a reverse duplicate of son Ben's Monaro.

"The new Edge livery is awesome; the more I look at it the more I like it!"
