Smile Fixed: Unable To Select Gears Fiesta 2004

Hi,

A neighbour could not select any gears in her automatic Fiesta.
I had a look at it last night but failed to find the problem.
Early this morning a tow truck was called.
The tow truck driver knew what the problem was immediately and showed her how to do a temp. fix with a cable tie. He would not take any money. Nice bloke. Said it was a common problem (not a mention of it on the Internet though).

I took a photo of the linkage that had disconnected.
The mechanical connection appears to be to a lever that rotates a select shaft (through a few tens of degrees) that sticks out of the gear box. The originating end of that linkage being from the drivers gear select lever. Please correct me if I got anything wrong here (I know nothing of Fiestas).

Blindingly obvious when it is pointed out to you.

Best regards
