Thay say 4000 spot welds on full one piece side pressings. Claiming 200% increase in body stiffness. And using ultra high strength metals in Key areas. Has a full structural firewall welded into the body, and a seperate dash that has its own full width steel reinforcement. Pedals and steering wheel is attached to this solid structural member and apparently the feel is beyond words.

Quote-- Bothe front and rear suspensions are everything the previous Commodore didn't have, but they are not such a big advance over BF, IF AT ALL.
However in conjunction with the better balance and structural integrity, the VE platform feels all of a piece, like it belongs to a car of more than twice the Commodore entry price.

Thats the sort of stuff we were hoping for.

"The VE is as strong behind the rear seats as the previous models were weak"

Interesting they say that when the BA was launched all the Journo's were distracted by the extra 100kg of weight. But made no references to structural changes. Now the VE is so hyped up about structural changes, the extra weight is hardly noted.

Holden were pretty smart with there media releases. No reporters actually drove any of them until 1 August apparantley, so they were forced to use "fed" information without actually driving the VE

I think to sum up we Ford fellas have nothing to fear. The VE platform seems to have a superior chassis and balance. But as for the rest of it, it is not groundbreaking by any means. The Alloytech 6 has 72 new parts and is still a crock in the VE. With the VE extra weight taking its toll on the V6. The VE's four speed auto is no match for Fords local four speed upgrade, with no manual shift option or grade control logic. Even the High output Alloytec with 5 speedauto can not match the Ford 6spd auto.

" All holden could do was shut out the harshness, but only if you dont rev it. The best of the Motley bunch is the SV6 with 6 speed manual. But revving it hard generates a "XF Falcon taxi type roar" that does not belong in a 2006 model car

The V8 however, sounds like a great package, but I think Ford will knock it over in the new falcon.

I would suggest the VE 6 will find it very hard to compete with the current BF falcon.

I'd like to think this is the case, but when the choice comes down to V8 engines Holden seem to have a good thing.

latest wheels comes up with a very positive review of the ve in there 5 day test they claim the "steering and ride are as good or better, than any bmw"... massivly sets the new standard for an aussie made car, faster than any holden (or hsv) before hand and that 'ford should be worried'

ve will most probally be a success, probally much more so than bf2 because lets be honest here, the bf got outsold by the massivly inferior vz, due to fleet sales or not who knows? i think ford might struggle a bit untill the orion falcon arrives.

anyway spose the only way to find out for sure what car suits you best is to go out and drive the things yourself.

What is better in what area re the BF or the VE?

In the depreciation stakes? Let's see in a few more years time.

I'd have to drive both to make a fair judgment.

Now, just something I've gotta comment on here.

When I was at the Holden dealer last Saturday, they had a husband/wife combo interested in the SS model. He was standing there (the husband) checking out the rear end on the SS, then told the salesman to give it a bootful.

I was very, very disappointed. Didn't hear a damn thing bar the fans going mental in the front end. I'm not saying Ford is any better re: sound out of the V8 from factory, but I thought I would've heard at least some sort of burble.

Going on looks I think the VE SV6 has too much bling going on, BUT, based on that photo of the BF, the VE wins hands down.

Although everyone knows BF Mk II XR6's are sex in real life...

Drive has published impression and comparisons.

Berlina v Futura.

Berlin wins not but not by much which is what many having been saying. It appears the Holden isn't good enough in all areas to put the Ford away comprehensively.

The HSV well that another story. Some of the comments seem inaccurate, but the end result much tougher news for FPV

God I hate it when people vote on a poll that is dead and buried.

What's the bloody point?
