Those figures are very vague cause I can't memorize all the figures - but I was pretty sure the turbo motor hit peak torque much sooner than the V8 and held it up there much longer (once again - correct me if I am wrong please) :
Yeh your probably right, but from what i saw from them going at it at the qtr mile, the F6 stuttered to 40 then when zoom, where the v8 showed the grunt up front, but then was left behind. Also, i assume the Ts have a quite large exhaust housing. Doesnt this sacrifice low down torque for higher top end power?? Im just under the impression that the later boost comes on, the later you postpone the power in the rev range?? Could someone elaborate on that?

Thumbs up

Having used both engines in the years gone by and they are both great engines but who could pass up a 429 Supercharged Cobra Jet Engine sitting under the bonnet of a new Mustang GT

I love the feel of my Windsor and I can only imagine the 4.6L is a screamer too. Driven a mates XR6T and whilst quick, it didn't have that aural sound and great feel.

There is a review in todays Melbourne Age it picks the XR6T Auto over the XR8.

Some quotes:

“it outguns the current crop of local V8s (HSV’s 6.0-litre monster excepted) down low and from just off idle”.

“Ford Falcon XR8 – On paper a better performer than the XR6T but in fact nowhere near as good. V8 engine is lethargic down low and thirstier too”.

The full review will be on the Internet next week.

sat down on the weekend and flicked the tv on. I saw two utes on TV, one an XR8 and one an F6 Typhoon. The typhoon absolutely blitzd it. from about 0-40 they were even, but when boost kicked in, the typhoon flogged its ***. This is coming from 2 stock motors. I cant remember the show but it was a good watch.
I saw that too actually, the Top Gear-esque Australian show, `drive' or something. I read an article on the two in MOTOR mag, so I knew who'd win, but it was suprising by how much

4L turbo for me. Sound is purely opinion, the BOSS sounds nice but I actually prefer the sound of the six. As for `feel', that's the feel of a more thermodynamically efficient, more responsive, lighter, balanced-configuration engine

There is no substitute for inches......I have that on good authority ;)
5.4L is always going to be a better starting point than 4.0L.
I also think some people are cheating a bit when it comes to the T6 returning better bang for buck than the 8's by discounting the price difference between the turbo and non-turbo models and only counting post-delivery spending on mods. You might consider the cost of the turbo fitting and plumbing to be seperate from your spending on after market mods, but you pay for it nonetheless.

I'm a V8 man through and through, but I have to say the T this time. I've driven many BA V8s and Turbos, and I just love the turbo rush. I am yet to drive a Typhoon yet so I could only imagine how well that goes. But stock for stock, every BA XR8 i've driven hasn't felt as quick as the XR6T. And don't get me started on BFYB mods....

Hey there Bluehoon, if ya couldn,t get a Boss engine into the 13's with $5000 of play money then you're not trying hard enough !
Blower kits now come in at around these dollars, so to cam / zorst, flasher combo's.

Turbo tunability is far superior, no doubting that, but for reasonable dollars you can get the Big Boss going to !

And to the man that can get an I6T to sound as tough as the current crop of Ford small blocks (with appropriate pipes) you'll be a rich bastard, 'cause no one else has come close.

V8 for me, looking at buying a manual BA XR8, however all 6T guys are making it a very hard decision.

I love it Ford have given us great choice's with the current line up.
I love the 6T's/Phoons as without the snail I wouldn't even give them a look in previous models.
I don't give a stuff how quick things are for the 1/4 though and for my day to day use I'll still go the Boss when the comes to upgrade.

I have had a 5.4 for about 12 months now , spent a few dollars on the usual mods and have to say love the 8 , sound , power (242RwKw) ....
Got into a F6 tornado the other day , this thing was off the hook , def glad I went for the 8 , but next time might have to be the F6. Power wise both are great , F6 has a diffrent feel to it - still bloody quick @ 300RwKw
Cant make up my mind these days , I say try and grab one of each !!!

After having the old mans Ute fitted with the below Listed bolt on's im glad he went the Boss Powered Pursuit, sure it isn't going to be as fast as the XR6T or F6 Brothers that have had the same amount of money spent on them.

But just because it isn't as fast as it's 4.0L Turbo Brothers doesn't mean it is slow either, the Grey Ghost as Dad calls it has put many LS1 to shame and when a family Friend who owns a VYII SS M6 was taken for a run in it he was suprised to say the least at how hard it went compared to what all the "Expert Mags" say..

As for them being Lazy for rev's many edited ones are pulling 6200Rpm daily driven and 6400Rpm at the track, they can rev it's jst Ford don't want you too, and Fuel Economy isn't as bad as made out either with the ute pulling 450-500Km out of a tank easy and it isn't getting driven like a granny either.

Boss all the way, every day for me :1syellow1 nothing agains the XR6T either there a great package :

It's amazing at this point just how close the results are between the 4.0L Turbo I6 (169) & 5.4L V8 (171).

What would be intersting considering the closeness is a comparision of age demographics between the I6T voters and the V8 voters.

I am just guessing here but I would not be surprised if the "average" age group of the I6T voters was lower than that for the V8 voters.

im 21 and it's a v8 all the way. My first car was a v8 and i'm not about to change now, if i want to go fast i'll bolt a blower on the side or strap a couple of turbo's to the bent 8.

would have one of each if i could , really tuff call if ther was an xr`t at dealer and a boss it would be 50/50 ,but would probably leave with turbo just for ease of turning the wick up, would be proud to have either in my garage

V8 man here.
Married to a V8 girl.
What else but 2 x XR8's in our carport...

OK, while 6T goes better than the V8, NOTHING will ever beat the V8 sound.

Ohh, BTW, between her AUII XR8's 220kw Windsor, and my BAII XR8's Boss, I'd have her Windsor ANY day.
Much nicer to drive, heaps smoother, and only engine sound I like to hear is the exhaust. The Boss has more rattles than a Toorak baby...

Thats an interesting comment. While i like the sound of the later tuned up Windsors 200kw onwards, I have always like the sophisticated sound of the Boss v8, it has the good ol fashion v8 noise with a nice metallic revvy noise up top not dissimilar to a V8 BMW.

Back to the topic of a turbo 6 or V8 I guess the conclusion to this life long falcon debate will rest on what will appear as a replacement for my AUII XR6. :

Wow. 182 votes each, dead even after all this time.

I still say a turbo'd V8 :p Everytime I jump in dads XT 351C ute it's a buzz, I can only imagine what that must be like with a turbo.. or even a blower ;)

The sound of the V8 is why i would always go the V8 over I6 turbo, but the typhoon does make a good case against the GT... And whover did the 4 cylinder man vote needs a slap across the face :P nah just kidding...

As I said in my post nothing but nothing sounds sweater than a tough V8 @ high rmp but that said the F6 is a super car.
