Default Mobile speed cameras and the Vic election

I read a comment in the paper the other day about the sudden disappearance of mobile speed cameras in Melbourne lately and that it may have something to do with the election. I can't say I've seen any myself, has anyone else or is this just a crock?

Personally I have a long memory though.. I wont vote for the muppet anyhow.

Haven’t seen a mobile speed camera for a long time.
Maybe because there all fixed now, I very rarely contribute to the camera fund so I don’t really care how many they have.
It's up to each individual if you want to donate to this lucrative fund.
PS: 2 weeks back I seen the ones on the ring road were pulled down again, maybe an upgrade of cameras.

New ones installed after a very long and welcome absence. I think the fixed ones are online though.

We need LG to do an internet search. He'd get the answer fast I'd reckon.

Labor is likely to lose a few seats in this election and Bracksy wants to limit the damage. Down go the mobiles.
As was said, who would want to vote for the government that slugs you for going a couple of kilometers over the limit?

I ask you...what has Bracks done that has actually changed Victoria?

I've seen one since the election thing started. Behind Breaside park this morning, hardly a prime spot for one. None in the usual places.

Here is the current Victorian Goverment fixed speed cameara sites
http://www.justice.vic.gov.au/CA2569...ions060424.pdf

Western ring Rd is getting new digital camearas.
Press release:
''Fixed speed cameras will soon return to the Western Ring Road after the State Government signed a new contract with Aspect Traffic Pty Ltd, the Minister for Police & Emergency Services, Tim Holding, announced today.

Mr Holding said Aspect Traffic had won a $6.5 million, five-year contract to install and maintain eight digital-radar camera sites on the Western Ring Road

“For the first time in Victoria, fixed speed cameras will operate with a radar system, and not require in-road sensors,” Mr Holding said.

“The cameras will incorporate secondary speed checking devices, giving the public confidence the system is reliable and fair.''

I'm sure it will be reliable. Not too sure about the fair bit though

I did have the VIC Lib leadership interested in our NSW fixed speed camera warning signs, they have JPG's of them.

I'll follow up this week their position on the matter, I have suggested three on approach to the same NSW specifications.

NSW targets inattentive driving this way, albiet using speed as the means to do so.

I drive past two nearly every day, one parked out side our work (blackshaws rd Altona Nth) its a green commy station wagon and a white commy wagon in the phone booth stop just after the on ramp from boundry rd heading north on the ring rd.....

In the last two weeks the green one has disappered off the face of the earth and the white one has been out to play once.

Also the silver hatchback that sits on taylors rd facing west (just after the brimbank pools) hasn't been there in about 3 weeks, It sat on the same stretch of rd for nearly 8 months..... election comes along and its gone!!!!!

I haven't contributed to the slug a victorian fund for about 8 years but i still don't agree with "couple of kays over" policy.

Bracksy you will never have my vote!!!!!!! :jab:

In my books Bracksy is done for. There's no way in hell he's getting my vote and by the looks of it not many other peoples votes either. The guy is a clown - first he tries to sell us some BS that fixed speed cameras are infact road safety devices (funny that two years on there hasn't been an improvement to the road toll), and then he tries to tell us that building more dams won't have any effect on our ability to beat or minimise the impact of a drought. No worries - i hope he enjoys retirement.

Off the topic: a dam will have no short term effect on avoiding drought.
It comes down to water management.
If there's no rain, a dam is pretty bloody useless.
It's like buying a brand new car when there's no petrol available. Oh, and hypothetically, LPG isn't available.

But it's strategic, the camera thing. They won't want to lose votes. As soon as Bracks wins, he'll stick them all up.

As for cameras I will vote against Bracks & co for this policy.I don't believe speed is the be all of road safety policy. The water issue is not just water management, successive govts over the last 30 years have been putting off dam construction. If we had these dams now we would be in a better position to weather the drought than we are now. Bracks is a Pavlova premier, no substance and will be remembered for nothing.
Cheers
Bill.

I agree that additional dams don't solve our problems short term, but we need to be thinking long term. As for no rain... it was snowing a few days ago :

Bill M said it best... pavlova premier that will be remembered for nothing.
