Default When you where young, why did you buy FORD?

For me
Ford Family. Dad owns a Mustang, we had a 351 XF when i was kid, hell we even had a bloody 96 Taurus
And me being young and needing a car, obviously it was going to be ford, cause i just loved em by then!
And the XC was just there at the right time when i was looking for XA-XC and for the right price!

Only Ford in our family was an XW, Dad liked the car and the power considering he had only ever had small pommy cars before that, but he hated the fuel bill with a passion. He also hated Holdens for being rustbuckets, so he traded it after only 18 months. But it was the Moffat era back then and from then on I was hooked.

Dad raced Escorts in my youth, from then on it was blue or nothing (Mini's are the only exception). I will never forget watching the Siera's tearing up Bathurst with him in the late 80's

I definitely don't come from a Ford family, growing up we always had Holdens, even though they were old clunkers at the time, mostly Kingswoods and Toranas.

The amount of money I was willing to spend replacing my previous car left me with mostly 1995-2000 models. I didn't like the small Jap cars because they were too expensive for what they were, and lacked most of the gadgets and safety features I wanted. I had learnt to drive in a Magna so I didn't really consider one, I wanted something different.
I had faith in the Holden brand so I had looked at a few Commodores, but they were decades behind the Magnas in terms of ride comfort, build quality etc, and didn't have any safety features as standard. I had found a really low km EL Futura for a relatively low price - it had all the safety features I expected, plenty of creature comforts, a great ride and plenty of grunt. I had heard a lot of good things about the I6 but it was still a really nerve-wracking decision to hand over my hard-earned for a Ford. I had an old EA for a couple of months back on my L plates which went ok, but mum had a dud Laser which really put me off the blue oval.

My Father owned Fords all his life, and when i was growing up i knew he had very little trouble with them, and i guess it was a natural progression. We are not a family that bags Holden either, but just had a great run out of Fords.
In 1982 around Grade 8 i fell in love with the XD Phase V, and as they say the rest is history, and i've owned 13 Ford V8's since i was 17.

I didn't . I bought a Holden as my first car. A '79 HZ Kingswood wagon. At the time I really liked the XF Fairmont Ghia, but there was no way I could afford one and easy finance didn't exist. ('90-'91').

I didn't know anything about cars, so relied on friends for help and advice. They all suggested Kingswoods, as they were cheap, cheap to repair, and a lot of the time, you could learn to do the work yourself.

I stayed a Holden supporter until I bought my first Falcon in 2004. I then bought a new Holden Berlina wagon for the wife. Having 2 same models together to compare made the Holden look really bad. I vowed never to buy another one. We got rid of the wagon, and bought a BA XR8. And we both love it.

I traded the BA ute on a BFII tonner. I didn't really 'enjoy' that car, but it never had any issues.

When it came time to trade the BF II I went back to the same dealer I bought the previous 2 utes from. I came across their sales manager (very lose interpretation of one), who lied to me, treated me like I knew nothing, and then offered me the worst deal I had ever seen. He offered no alternatives, was rude, and conveyed that they didn't want my business, through his manner. (Ben Ruxton at Bryan Byrt Ford MT Gravatt). I wasn't going to name and shame, but thinking back, I deserved much better as a customer. Oh, and I have dettered 6 potential customers away from them already. Sorry for the rant, just rememberring what happened got the better off me.

I needed a new ute quick (tax time), so a friend suggested I try the local dealer (Holden, and Bryan Byrt Ford Capalaba). Was not spending any moneyat BBF, so Holden it was. I went into the dealership, carrying my Ford preference for all to see. I spoke to a salesman and told him what I wanted.

The offer I presented was way out there. I was expecting to be told to leave. Instead 2 mins later, the salesman said, I was just a bit away from making a deal. I threw in an extra $2000, and the deal was struck. I was in the dealership for about 20 minutes before signing the paperwork on a brand new SSV Commodore Ute. (I would have preferred and XR8).

When I went to BBF they wasted 2 hrs of my time. I have bought 2 new vehicles of them in the past, (one after an another), and in the 2 purchases combined, I did not take up as much of their time as they wasted of mine. I have only ever gone into BBF 3 times. Twice I bought a car, the 3rd I didn't. I will never go in there again.

The first time I bought a Flacon from them, I was a devout Holden fan, looking for a good deal on a work ute. They bent over backwards to get my business. The second time, they didn't really try. The third time they appear to have assumed I would just buy the ute from them.

This works both ways. If a Holden fan shops at a Ford dealer, they seem to get looked after better. And the same goes for a Ford fan looking at a Holden. Almost like a girl trying to convert a gay guy. They genuinely seem to try harder.

I no longer care if I buy a Ford or a Holden. I will look for the car that drives better, suits me best and also the way I am treated by the dealers. The only ones who win from brand loyalty are Ford and Holden, and IMHO, they couldn't care less about the average customer.

I will never buy anything other than a Ford or Holden. But I won't ever be one eyed again either.

Family cars were always ford, ive had the pleasure of helping in picking the family car....unfortunatly the criteria was for it not to be less than 3 years old..
For my next car/project/whatever ill be lookng at buying an EA/B/D wagon, maybe try and pick up a classic to resto if the price is right...because i see ford as the overall better car in all aspects (if put up against its competitor), i know my way around one, comfortable, powerful, grippy, build quality, fit and finish, quality of materials, durabiity, just everything about them works...
Ford didnt have anything that met my criteria so i didnt buy Ford for a personal car...Although i can drive the BF...

My father basically convinced me to sell my holden and drive fords.

He had not actually owned any himself until about that time but was VERY knowledgeable about the manufacture of motor vehicles.
He used to run a car factory.....

Yeh, My Dad owned a XY Falcon 500 (Wish I had it now) and have some fond memories of us going on holidays in that car.. bench seat in the front and twin exhaust at the back =)

Then he owned a XE Falcon S Pack, which he owned for quite a few years then sold it.

Now owns a 2005 VRX Magna which he was leasing through work and bought when Mitsubishi Lonsdale engine plant shut down.. But he has told me recently that he'd love to own a XR6 Falcon, which he got to drive one when my parents went on holiday Tasmania.

I have owned 3 Fords.

XF Fairmont Ghia
and now my AU Fairlane Ghia.

I am stuck in my ways and will never and I say NEVER consider another car car besides a Ford.. Unless I had heaps of money then it might change my mind... hehe

dad had a green xb, i asked him the the OP and he said coz he loved the shape. i'm only 18 but i've supported ford for a long time in v8sc and i bought a ford because holdens are just too popular as a p plate ride. and ever since i was about 6 a silver xw with all the goodies has been my dream car so i guess my love really started there.

My Dad always had Fairlanes, from the old US specc Compacts to ZG>ZH>NF...I learn't to drive in his 351 ZH Marquis..actually when I was born he slapped a Ford logo on the side of my pram..I was brainwashed..LOL

My old man bought an XC that was 6mth's old, drove it until the rust took over and then bought an XF Fairmont Ghia 2nd hand.

My Grandfather worked at ford for 35 years, so they never had anything else but fords.
My Parents obviously followed this and bought fords (many); so I was brought up in a ford family.

Since I was born (93) dad has had at least;
2 lasers (KB and 1996?)
1 ea fairmont
3 XR6'S (EF, EF, BA)
2 falcon utes (AU, BA)
1 FPV GT (BAII)
1 Falcon wagon (XF?)
1 Laser racecar (KA)
1 capri (SAII)
1 or 2? fairlane/s (199#'s)
2 KA's
and a I am sure a few others that he never had serious problems with either.

Up until 3 years ago I liked H*!den
But I think this was more just to annoy the family :P
When my brother bought his EF XR6 I had a few drives on the skidpan and stuff and realised that I wanted one.

I originally wanted a VS commodore as my first car.
But I looked into it and there was no logical reason why I should buy one over the EF/EL XR6.
The xr6 had more power, torque, style, safety (ABS, airbag), and features such as cruise control.
and they were cheaper (had to be manual)

But fords EF xr6 (brothers) was what brought me over to team blue.
and I have never EVER regretted my decision on first car.

Both my dad and uncle had fords when they were younger. Both had many Esorts 1.6, 1.8, 2.0, panelvans. I always wanted a tough escort like them, but realised they were few and far between. Dad also had a very nice XE fairmont that went quite well back in the day. When it came time for me to get my first car, mum and dad were looking at upgrading, so i said i would have our old family car, which at the time was a 93 EB GLi. I knew the history, never spent much on it repair wise and it kept goin.
Ive had falcons since.

Well I actually came from a family of Holden lovers. My first love was my Grandmothers XC GXL. Then the car was written off while I was in it :( . I have loved Fords ever since. Dick Johnson was my childhood racing hero, and he still is. My first Falcon was an AU. And well the rest is History.

On a side note, I did manage to convert my mother to Fords. One test drive was all it took to erase years of Holden fandom

I first started off with a 200B wagon then to a VP commodore then N12 pulsar

Being young i wanted something other than a commodore again, EVERYONE has one. So a mate of mine was selling an EA 5sp for $500, few mods done which suited me. Ever since ive loved fords.

Only thing is i cant convince my gf to get one lol

yup very much the same here as well

I owned a 1976 lx torry with a 400 chev turbo'd and that was the only one he would work on other than that he told me outright that if i ever bought a commy he would refuse to work on it

he was as happy as a pig in poo when i bought the xf then the poo hit the fan as i went overseas and didnt make payments on the xf and it got repoed i then got a camira wagon for about 6 months then was back in a falcon ea

then i purchased the EL and hope to have that for a long time yet ( cant wait for the aff drags this year )

As a kid, I was a Holden boy. Dad was a used car salesman at Shack Motors Fremantle and sometimes would bring home such exotica as SLR5000's and such. This is when they were still sort of new so you can imaine the impact this had on a little fella. I also liked to watch the motor racing and see Peter Brock winning races all the time.

It's not that I disliked Fords, I just only used to see Holdens. Later, when my dad had a different job, he had an XY Falcon 500 as his work hack. The introduction to this car led to the discovery of the GTHO and other race specials which opened my eyes considerably. I still preferred Holdens though and visiting Holden dealers with the old man on school holidays when VL's, VN's etc were new kept that Holden flame going.

But I couldnt get that XY bug out of my head. And by the time my licence rolled around I was looking at all sorts of Holdens and Fords, but found an XW sedan for $1500 and that was that. It was a heap, but it introduced me to Ford ownership and apart from a foray into Holdens with an ex pursuit VT a few years ago, all my primary drive cars have been Falcons.

I never really looked back because of the puerile crap my so called mates put on me for driving a Ford. Whilst I still have time for Holdens (and I would happily own one if money was no option and Ford absolutely couldnt meet my needs) I've been a blue blood for years.

Dad had Valiants up until about 1980, when he had to get a wagon for his job. Chrysler was dead, and he didn't want a 4 Cylinder Wagon, so that ruled out the Sigma. He tried the Commodore, but wasn't impressed, so on a whim he tested an XD, which lead him to an XE, XF, EA (Ghia Wagon), and then an EBII Ghia. I didn't know any different, but I still learned on a Corolla.

After I got my licence, and a 'proper job', I started looking at cars, and fell in love with the (recently released) EF XRs, and on a whim found an EF XR6 at the Auctions, which was Le Mans Red, and Manual, with average KMs for its age, but it was a repossessed car. No worry, I just had to win it at the Auctions, which was easier than I thought. In hindsight, I should have kept this car...

When I'd moved up in the company enough to qualify for a company car, the AU had just been released, and I went in the complete opposite direction, and bought a Patrol, then an AUIII VCT, Territory, and back to an EF. I can't remember a time that there wasn't a Ford in my family. I like it this way.

Im only 17 and loving Fords and hating holdens has been drilled into me since i can remember i didn't even know what a valiant or a Chrysler was for most of my life my poppa was the ford nut in our family he had a yellow ochre xy Gt ho sold that and bought a 351 xb gs fairmont which if fully re built when we was in an accident involving a forked gum tree and lightening which resulted in the car being but into 3 pieces which went to my mum when he died of cancer he also bought a xy Gt replica which went to my aunty. So when it came to me buying my first car i bought a 66 mustang project which is still waiting to be fixed up in my shed but as a every day driver i bought a 1 owner Bahama beige xe with 179000kms on the clock.

For me it stared when I was 6 my parents had a EH but needed a wagon so my dad came home with a dark green XB wagon with a 351, GT bonnet and dash then after that my mum got a XF then in 1999 she bought a ED xr6.

when it came time for her to upgrade I was 16 and looking for my first car she offerd me the xr6 for $2000 (they where still going for about $6000) I have blue blood so my first car would have been a ford anyway.

now have a EF Gli wish I kept the xr6.

Well I never bought a Ford when I got my P's, I was given one. My family had bought an 83 XE wagon 6 seater in 89 because there were 5 of us and our Gran never drove so on family things she would be in the car aswell. Anyway we went everywhere in that car, up and down the coast of W.A, we smashed it up good hitting a roo etc. Fast forward to me in year 12, my mum always said if we graduated, she would buy a car, only for me she was looking to get an EL Wagon in 00 and as such the XE was passed down to me. I thrashed that car to buggery, I won $1000 and the first thing I did was extractors and exhaust, this is how the car stayed I never upgraded anything else, but it went hard. In time I thrashed it too much, I had replaced 2 engine mounts and the cylinder head cracked, so I fully rebuilt the motor. After this with the combination of the Extractors (Genie) and my custom sports exhaust, the car really flew. So much so I lost my licence. Anyway over the years I had to rebuild the trans and replace the Diff 3 times, but the engine (after rebuild) could not be killed (I wasn't trying, but was expecting it to) I am not an expert but my motor had a twin barrel carby, not the single barrel I saw on XD's. Again over time the car needed repairs and by this stage mum was not willing to help, I was on C link payments (by now mum had kicked me out, which is the best thing she ever did) and couldn't fix it. Over time the boot door got so much rust it was almost falling off. It was the only rust in the whole car, but was to be it's demise. I decided to offload it to a wrecker for $100 as the rust wasn't worth it. I later found out that the wreckers got ****ed one night and thrashed the **** out of the car, burnouts, race laps etc, it went on for 6hours apparantly and that motor started the next day no problems. It ended up going into a speedway car. Sometime I wished I still had the car.

1-2yrs later we had our daughter and there was a 30th ann EA for sale with proper fuel injection. 2 weeks after I bought it the car went into limp home mode, so I bought a used trans and never had any major problems again, but it was a gutless piece of ****.

2yrs after the EA I bought the ED, 2yrs on from the ED I now have the BF.

Basically ford was in my blood from the age of 6 from our first XE, my mum and my mums partner had EL Wagon's, (mum upgraded to give me the XE) my Dad had an EL wagon etc. Plus I always thought fords especially the X series were so much nicer to look at than the same period commodores.

On a side note the EL my mum bought did 400,000k with NO major issues, except for 3 yrs she drove with a blocked trans cooler (her mechanic at the time too stupid to realise) and she had to replace trans, but it went 3yrs with the blocked cooler before the trans died. After 400,000+ k's the cylinder head cracked, but so good is this car, her mechanic purchased the car for $1000, fixed the head and now uses it as the shop car, and they swear it is the best EL they have ever seen. So that also contributed to my faith in Fords.

well i grew up in a holden house my first car was a 85 VK bought it cheap an all my mate were in vl's and corolla's, i lost my license and pulled it off the road for a freshen up new paint highly worked 186s (first major re build)so i got my ticket back started cruisin round in other things but got sick of workin on them all weekend just to drive it to work monday, cruised past a car yard one weekend there sittin on the ramps was a 00 mod AU XR6 thought gee thats different so i bought it 2yrs old for $7500 never laid a spanner to it, ma an pa had just bought a vx same year was crap bad seats no response fell apart we'll long story traded the au for BA mkII XR6 then bought an AU II XR8 ute and never looked back......... some say i've seen the Blue light, others just don't know comfort or handeling like a FORD

same as many others, dad always had fords, seemed only natural to do the same.

i learnt to drive in a xc ute, 3 speed manual, complete povo pack. dad said if i could drive that i could drive anything.

Ha Ha, I went for my licence in my CM Valiant.
The lady at vic roads asked why I was going for my licence in such a big car, I told her it's my car and I have to drive it anyway...

Maybe I should have went in a corolla, then not be able to drive my own car!!

I bought my first ford age 24. We had holdens growing up. Everyone in my family owned holdens except for 1 uncle. But he and others in my family worked at Holdens in Elizabeth where I grew up. We only bought a ford because the Mrs wanted a ford. I still wanted to go back to Holden, but I guess now it's out of my system and I'm happy to stay faithful.

My first few cars were all kingswoods. I much prefer these over Early Falcons. I still do.

My first ford was an EA Falcon. I am surprised after owning it,that I still stayed with fords. But I like the newer fords. B Series is a great car and the FPV's especially the BF is such a great looking car. Mondeo is good as well. Not a fan of the FG, don't like it at all. It's the only thing I think that stops me getting back into a Falcon.

My old man bought this XY ute in 74 at a deceased estate Auction,i was 14 and fell in love with the thing,he slotted in a 351,GT dash etc even a shaker was bought for it but never fitted.After that it was always going to be Fords,and it was.

didnt know there was any other makes,the family bleeds blue blood our trucks were fords except a couple of kenworths,the tractor,even my ski boat has a 351 in it .nearly all the family barracks for carlton as well thats how blu we are
