Here is proof you can't satsify everyone any of the time...
http://www.theage.com.au/national/si...0117-7jmg.html If silent cars are a hazard... bring on V8s with open exhausts ? |

Looks like the car manufacturers with silent cars are going to have to make them noisy.
- Exhaust cannons for bigger WHoosh. - Pegs and cardboard on wheel spokes.

Yes , Yes........
This is the exact safety reason why I have invested in DF and X Force gear on the GT as well as the G & D Airbox......In many circumstances, the car is heard before it is seen and makes my drive very safe and satisfying...........well that's my story and I'm sticking to it......... |

The sexiness includes speakers that produce a variety of optional fake growling "user selectable" engine sounds — apparently so the driver can still feel like a hoon. The optional aspect means the noise is not there to benefit the blind.
lol so even when you do the "right thing" and buy a hybrid car, you can still be a hoon by the sound your electric car makes ....... hahaha |

Yes, hybrid cars are a safety hazard in car parks, they can reverse out with even well sighted pedestrians taken by surprise. A lass at work has one and has mentioned this.
Surprised The Age has raised this issue. |

this is a real issue, being a pedestrian in a car park ive always relied on both ears and eyes, often a smaller can will be parked next to a 4wd or something to obscure the view so you dont see it backing out but you can usually hear something. such quiet cars can just fly out without being noticed and theyve surprised me a couple of times |

That bumper sticker "loud exhausts save lives" rings true now doesn't it.
Maybe there should be a government rebate for aftermarket exhaust systems.

My father got ripped and defected hard @ easternats a couple years ago - the reason "exhaust too loud" - I was standing there listening to the police officer rant about how the "community doesn't like easternats and the bad element it brings" I was like "an old retired man and his 30 year old son is a bad element?" anyway as we have this conversation a Harley goes past EASILY 5x louder than my dads' car.... the officer barely even blinks, bit of a double standard isn't it, complaining about noisy cars and allowing harleys to deafen adults from 1 km away.......
he had to spend quite a substantial amount of hard earned to get the cars exhaust "suitable" in terms of noise, all he had done to it was straight thru one of the mufflers. Now this is saying he shouldn't have been made to do it? I will use this when I get pulled over for something noise related, and will let dad know.

I am all for loud V8s.
I do not believe in quiet hybrids. The media for some stupid reason love to portray V8s as "environment destroying, loud junkers" while hybrids are going to "save the planet". Dirty Magic.

If I was a Prius driver, the gesture surely counts for something, even if in reality I was poisoning the urine out of this rock.

Hmmm why did he not just use the crossing? The crossing at lights have an audible tone that indicates when it is suitable to cross.

I think Clarkson put it the best, "And you drive in your Prius around the corner, only to hit the small child in the middle of the road, who hasn't heard you coming. Although I am being unfair, as the Prius is so slow, the child will have run out onto the road, and retrieved his ball, then retreated to safety before you can hit him."
