You're right - noone wants a car that's always off the road. Our BA XR6 spent four month off the road before we sold it! Worst car we have ever owned.
And you're also right that cars are just a means of transport to some people.
However, I don't think all SA cars are off the road all the time, I was exagerating to emphasise how much driving dynamics of a vehicle and overall feel matter to me. I have had some great cars (like my Mondeo and Focus) and had some terrible terrible ones.
