We used to regularly do the Adelaide/Sydney run over the Hay Plain. Usually over 2 days, but occasionally in 1. Adding 10-15kph to your average speed makes a huge difference. More alert, but more importantly, more likely to finish that day's driving during daylight hours, and dusk is a terribly unsafe time to drive (animals, visibility, circadian rhythm/fatigue).
