The hose may be fractured at the seal flange. There might be damage to the seal seat in the housing. The clamping thread could be faulty; crossed or stripped. The pump body could even be cracked or slightly porous.

If in doubt, clean all bits meticulously and look for oil stains creeping.

My AU ute has this hose fitted, probably ten years old now.
