Good point but....
They are close cousins but the custard version is much bigger and more filling due to the donut base. The eclairs use that French Choux pastry that's quite light in weight and consequently not as filling.
A sure sign that you've got a decent Custard Long John in your hand is the sheer weight of the beast.
