If I got in the car as the passenger it doesn't matter who has the
'key', as it will still start as long as it is in range.

A bloke I met with an XR5 said that this happened to him, his missus was driving the car for him (he was the passenger), he had the 'key', got out and went to work. She went on her way. About an hour later he got a call from her saying he couldn't start the car, as she didn't have the key. Long taxi trip later, car was started.
